How It Works

Connect, read, record. A few minutes per instrument.

The verification unit provides known reference resistances. You connect your meter, switch to the matching range, and confirm the reading is within tolerance. Repeat for each range you use. The same principle applies to both units — the Tri-Verifier just covers more ranges and adds loop impedance.

  • Set your meter to the range you want to verify
    For example, OHMS for a resistance check, or a specific voltage for an insulation resistance test.
  • Connect the test leads to the matching reference on the unit
    0.5 Ω, 100 Ω, 1 MΩ, 10 MΩ — and additional ranges and loop load on the Tri-Verifier.
  • Compare the reading to the reference value
    An insulation resistance tester, for example, must hold its terminal voltage within +20% / −10% of nominal. The unit lets you confirm this directly.
  • Apply the calibration sticker and record the date
    Quick Check ships with instrument stickers. You now have evidence your meter was verified on the day.

The Tri-Verifier is a calibration verification unit made by Network Technology in Auckland. It checks the accuracy of three pieces of test equipment in one device: insulation resistance meters, multimeter resistance ranges, and loop impedance testers.

AS/NZS 3000 clause 8.6.3.1 requires you to check that your test equipment is reading correctly on a regular basis. The Tri-Verifier gives you a known reference so you can prove your instruments are accurate, on site, without sending them away to a registered lab.

The standard says “regularly” but doesn’t put a fixed number on it. That means the call sits with you. A sensible rhythm is at the start of a job, after any drop or knock, and any time a reading looks off.

Because the check takes under a minute with the verifier sitting on your workshop bench, there’s no reason not to do it often. If something goes wrong on a site and you end up in court, a documented on-site check is the answer to “how do you know your reading was right?”

No. The verifier provides a set of known reference values for your meter to read against. Your instrument does what it normally does in service — the verifier doesn’t push any load or voltage into it that it wouldn’t see on a normal job.

The Tri-Verifier ($250 + GST) is the full workshop unit. It checks all three things: insulation resistance meters, multimeter resistance ranges, and loop impedance testers. It lives on the bench.

The Quick Check ($105 + GST) is the smaller, lower-cost unit. It does the resistance check only — four ranges, same accuracy as the Tri-Verifier on the resistance side. It’s the one you throw in the van or your toolbox.

Most electricians end up with both: the Tri-Verifier on the workshop bench, and a Quick Check in the kit for spot checks on the job.
